As a result of the Star Marketing Project, utilizing marketing representatives in investor base expansion, more than 16,000 new investors have become involved in the Thai capital market. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), Association of Listed Companies (ASCO) and leading securities companies are launching a sequel, the 2nd Star Marketing Project, from April 1 - December 31, 2008, and inviting marketing representatives from bond and derivative markets to participate. In 2007, almost 4,000 marketing representatives, or 73% of the total number from across the country, responded to the project over six months and added 20,000 new accounts to the market. Through educational programs on a broad range of financial products, the project also raised the competence of marketers.
On March 4, 2008, at an award ceremony for marketing representatives from the 2007 Star Marketing Project, winners were divided into three groups: 1) 20 who signed up the largest number of new investors (Top 20); 2) 22 who signed up the largest number of new investors for their company (Top Broker); 3) marketing representatives who achieved new account targets, SET President Patareeya Benjapolchai said.
Prizes included a sponsored field trip to visit leading securities companies and financial institutions in South Korea, training scholarships at Thailand Securities Institute (TSI) and cash prizes for the Top 20. The prizes provide incentives for marketing representatives and acknowledge their importance in investor base expansion.
“The project ran from July to December 2007. Of the 20,000 new accounts, 16,000, or 84%, were from first-time investors - a significant achievement, especially when compared with the same period in 2006 when only 12,500 new accounts were opened,” Ms. Patareeya added.
The success in 2007 demonstrates the potential of marketing representatives when it comes to finding new investors and exceeding the company’s targets. Therefore, the Exchange will continue with the Star Marketing Project in 2008. This year, participants from all three markets will have the opportunity to improve themselves by winning 100 funded field trips to Japan and other benefits worth more than THB 6 million, SET Executive Vice President Vichate Tantiwanich said.
“The project enabled marketing representatives to provide good and ethical service, while developing their competence through TSI’s training courses”, Mini-TFP (Thai Financial Planner) and TIPS for Marketing: Tax Benefits and ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), and the Milky Way Night Program,” Mr. Vichate said.
The 2nd Star Marketing Project will run from April 1 to December 31, 2008. Participating marketing representatives will attend special training conducted by prominent specialists in the field.
