Long Table, Vertigo, Bed Supperclub and Q Bar Take Top Honors in BK Magazine Readers Choice Awards

Friday 30 January 2009 13:55
With politics and the theme of "change" both a worldwide and local phenomenon, Bangkokians foreshadowed the recent rise of Abhisit Vejjajiva to the role of premier by electing him most popular politician of 2008 in our annual Readers' Choice poll. Others new to the winners circle included Kinokuniya as Favorite Bookstore, CentralWorld as Favorite Shopping Mall and 70’s Bar as Favorite Gay Hangout.

For the seventh year running, Bangkok's top weekly lifestyle publication has given our readers, the city's most active, affluent and well-educated young professionals, the opportunity to tell us — and the world — who they like, love and hate, where and on what they're willing to spend their money, and what brands they're most loyal to, among other things.

This year's survey, posted on our portal, bkmagazine.com, consisted of 90 questions in categories covering restaurants, bars, spas, resorts and electronic goods, as well as some gauging public's opinion of politics and politicians, festivals, neighborhoods, public services and the like — both good and bad. (Long Table, for example, was voted Best New Restaurant [yay!] as well as Most Overrated Restaurant [oops!].) Some other highlights:

Sunday Brunch: Four Seasons

Outdoor Dining: Vertigo

Italian: Zanotti

Buffet: Oishi Grand

Best Drinks: Q Bar

Place to Chill: Nest

Live Music: Saxophone

Happy Hour: Coyote on Convent

Spa: Health Land

Resort: Let's Sea

Thai Destination: Chiang Mai

Foreign Destination: Japan

Inter Brand: Zara

Thai Brand: Greyhound

Gadget: iPhone

New thing: Bangkok Art and Culture Center

The full list of winners (and losers) with analysis of the results (plus maybe just a little of the opinionated commentary that BK is renowned for) will appear as the cover story in Friday's (January 30) BK Magazine. We'll also print the names of participating readers who were selected to receive a huge assortment of prizes worth over B200,000 including vacation packages and the latest gadgets.

All of this information will also of course be posted on our interactive website, bkmagazine.com. The website also offers the opportunity to voice your opinion on any of this year's choices; registration is required, but it takes just two minutes so long as you have a valid email address and phone number that we can use for verification purposes. (After all, it's never too early to start lobbying for next year!) In fact, you can leave comments on all of our stories — we read every single one of them (assuming they're not too profane), and select some for special recognition (prizes) and/or publication in BK Magazine.
