The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok has created a blend of European luxury with the splendour of the Thai cultural heritage

Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok officially opens today, taking guests on an extravagant journey through Kempinski’s history and destinations.

Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, the patroness of Thai culture will cut the ribbon to open the hotel, together with Michael Selby — Chairman, and Reto Wittwer — Kempinski Hotels’ President and CEO.

Upon their arrival, guests will be welcomed by traditional Thai drummers, flanking the driveway leading up to the main entrance of the hotel. Here, a group of eight Tanzanian Massai warriors will give guests a glimpse of what the evening has in store.

The history of Kempinski Hotels began at the end of 19th century Berlin. Already in the swinging 30s, Kempinski was among the first to introduce entertainment gastronomy and dinner dances in Germany’s vibrant capital. During the opening festivities of the Siam Kempinski Hotel in Bangkok these traditions will be revisited with performances of Annika Lund, a Marlene Dietrich impersonation act, and Angel Emah as Charlie Chaplin. Lizzy Melon & The Ladies Band, eight talented young ladies forming a swing orchestra, will be performing tunes of the times in the grand ballroom. Two very different magician’s acts will entertain guests with wizardry and astonishing special effects. Throughout the evening, elegant ladies in period costumes will promenade throughout the hotel among the guests.

Kempinski has properties in 28 countries around the globe. A ‘Taste Force’ consisting of seven chefs from Kempinski flagships like the ?ira?an Palace Kempinski Istanbul, Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay Bodrum, the Bilila Lodge Kempinski Serengeti, and the Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski Dar Es Salaam has especially been flown to Bangkok to delight guests with delicacies from their countries of origin. The hotel’s garden will host a replica of a Masai village, where guests can sample traditional Boma food. In the outdoor swimming pools, a Thai floating market will be recreated with boats, stirred by ladies in beautiful national costume, serving Thai dishes directly from their vessels. At the Sra Bua, Michelin starred Chef Henrik Yde-Andersen and his team will serve Thai canap?s with a modern twist, while a Thai drum and string band will entertain guests with national songs and tunes.

A Turkish Bazaar in the second ball room will invite guests to indulge in an Ottoman-style buffet while belly dancers perform throughout the evening. Gigantic ice sculptures of Thai dragons and Sturgeon fishes leaping out of the water are placed in the hotel’s lobby and T Lounge, doubling up as oyster and caviar bars.

In every corner of the hotel, various refreshment bars will offer drinks, from German beer to Champagne, from African wines to exotic mocktails. An impressive number of 17 bars throughout the ground and first floor will ensure no glass goes half empty. The Brasserie Europe will turn into a vault of sweet moments with two-metre high strawberry mountains, different kinds of chocolate fountains, and a lavish dessert buffet.
