The celebration began with the drumming of the Sabad Chai and artistic performances, opening the stage to more excitement to come. During the course of the evening, guests were taken on a historic journey with the multi-lingual re-telling of the age-old tale behind the Loy Krathong festivities, where this traditional festival signifies the richness of the ancient Thai heritage by paying homage to the Goddess of Water. It was believed that releasing of the ‘Krathong’ would bring good fortune and blessings. The guests were also treated to a sumptuous spread of delicious authentic Thai buffet, as well as the chance to participate in the many activities stalls such as fruit carving, garland making and ‘Krathong making’.
Guests were also invited to compete in the Best Traditional Dressed Guest Competition where they were encouraged to adorn themselves in colourful, striking Thai costumes. The winner, collectively chosen by Royal Cliff Hotels Group executives, was Ms. Liza, a young girl from Russia who was beautifully adorned in a Thai traditional costume. Royal Cliff General Manager Mr. Joachim Grill was at hand to present Liza with her award courtesy of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group.
The highlight of the evening was the Miss Loy Krathong 2011 Competition. Eight contestants were selected from various departments of the property and each stunning contestant modeled a unique costume in hopes of winning the grand prize. For this part of the evening the audiences were asked to participate in the most important role; as the judges, where they had to vote their favourite Ms. Loy Krathong.
The winner of the contest and this year’s Miss Loy Krathong or locally known as “Nang Noppamas” was the beautiful Ms Penprapa Plianchand from the Food and Beverage department of the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel. General Manager Mr. Joachim Grill presented Ms Penprapa with her grand prize award. Ms Torfun Sukanya from Housekeeping and Ms Sirinan Photak from the Food and Beverage department of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel were the runners-up. Royal Cliff Deputy General Manager Mr. Ranjith Chandrasiri presented the prizes to the runners-up.
Royal Cliff’s Miss Loy Krathong was then led to a sedan chair and was hand carried to lead the procession of floating the Krathongs into the pool, where the guests were also invited to float their Krathongs. The enchanting ritual of floating candlelit Krathongs were a mesmerising sight and the guests were all very happy to be a part of this fascinating celebration.
