Bangkok Lab and Cosmetic PCL (BLC) has demonstrated its prowess as a leading producer and distributor of healthcare products, with its operation encompassing the upstream to downstream healthcare business value chain. With over 3 decades of experience and expertise in the healthcare industry, the company pushes on by actively researching and developing innovations to improve the quality of life for Thai people, by providing them with greater access to quality medicines that meet international safety and production standards, in response to anticipated health mega-trends. BLC is currently set to move forward through the process of listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), ultimately promoting sustainable business growth.

Mr.Suvit Ngampoopun, Chief Executive Officer of BLC, said the company is one of Thailand's leading comprehensive healthcare solutions groups. BLC manufactures and distributes generic drugs and new generic drugs, herbal medicines, animal medicines, cosmetics, food supplements, and other health-related products. Its offerings are wide-ranging, and its operation covers the entire supply chain of the healthcare business from upstream to downstream: from research and development, manufacturing with international standards, sales, and marketing, to distribution to partnering businesses and customers. By placing importance on safety and international quality standards, BLC is able to enhance the quality of life of Thai people and enable them to have access to quality medicines.

For over 30 years, BLC has conducted its business under the vision of 'Focusing on innovation, tapping Thai wisdom in the development, driving operations with technology to deliver quality and safe products'. The company's products are categorised in two main groupings - pharmaceuticals and other health-related products.

1) The pharmaceuticals which are manufactured and distributed under BLC's trademarks consist of 1.1Generic Drugs and New Generic Drugs based on the formulae of Original Drugs or Patented Drugs whose patent rights have expired. These include Musculoskeletal, dermatological, respiratory medications, and Alimentary tract and metabolism drugs. Generic drugs help increase patient's access to medicines as it can be listed in reimbursement scheme, allowing for less burden on government health expenditure. Thus, the patient's quality of life is improved and thus establishing sustainable health security. Falling in this grouping are 1.2 Herbal Medicines that are made from raw materials sourced locally such as chili (capsaicin), plai, black galingale (Kaempiferia parviflora), and aloe vera. Our herbal medicines are innovative and revolutionizing: they contain standardized extracts based on in-depth research findings and are backed up with clinical trials. With international-standard, modern-pharmaceutical manufacturing technology, our herbal products are able to boost confidence among healthcare professionals and are accepted as alternatives, alongside conventional treatment. 1.3 BLC's Animal Medicines are pharmaceuticals for economic animals, treating infectious diseases that occur on the livestock farm.

2) Other health-related products consist of: 2.1 Cosmetics for facial and body care under the company's trademark and contract manufacturing for other companies through the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) arrangement. 2.2 Food Supplements are produced and distributed under the company's trademark by focusing on products related to the maintenance of joints, muscles, bones, and eye care. 2.3 Other Products include lubricating gel and mosquito repellent spray. The company's products are supplied through various channels like public and private hospitals, leading pharmacies, modern trades, and online channels with the determination to allow Thai people to have access to the company's products thoroughly.

Mr.Suvit, a pharmacist by training, said: "We conduct our business with the determination to create health security, social and economic well-being for Thai people. "This is based on our conviction that good health creates smiles that can lead to long-lasting happiness. "Therefore, we place great importance on research and development of products as well as promoting continuous innovation in order to become a leader in the production and distribution of health products in Thailand to support future health care trends and drive the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in Thailand in the future."

Mr.Subhachai Saibour, Chief Operating Officer of BLC, stated that the company was well aware of the importance of research to the pharmaceutical industry. It has therefore set up the BLC Research Centre to develop innovation and technology for the company's products. The center has received technology transferred from various public and private research agencies to produce New Generic Drugs along with research and development of herbal extracts with production processes under internationally recognized standards such as GMP, ISO9001, ISO/IEC17025, ISO22000, GHP, and HACCP. The company also pays attention to every production process and quality control by applying modern technology in every stage of production. Among such technology in place is High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) which is used to check the quality of ingredients, dissolution testers, and metal detectors to help Thai people have better access to medicines and treatments. The company's operation is also geared towards reducing dependence on imported pharmaceuticals and raw materials in a bid to propel sustainable growth for the Thai pharmaceutical industry, he added.

Meanwhile, Mr.Somchai Phisphahutharn, Chief Financial Officer of BLC, revealed that the company's sales were at 1,202 million baht in 2019, 1,105.3 million baht in 2020 and 1,108.3 million baht in 2021. He attributed the 8% decline in sales in 2020 to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions which seriously affected the overall economy. However, the situation began to recover in 2021 as the government eased disease control measures and the rate of vaccination of the people increased. As a result, BLC's revenues from sales inched up by three million baht in the year. Net profit for 2019 was 0.7 million baht, 13.7 million baht in 2020, and 51.1 million baht in 2021.

The first nine months of 2022 saw BLC's sales rose 17.4% over the same period of 2021 to 938.5 million baht. This was due to the improved situation of Covid-19 and the relaxation of government control measures, thus allowing pharmacies and beauty clinics to resume normal operation. Consequently, the company was able to record higher sales in almost every category of products and achieved a 463.4% jump in net profit for the first nine months of 2022 to 87.9 million baht. The marked improvement on profitability also stemmed from more efficient cost and expense management, constant decline in finance costs, and privileges from the Board of Investment (BOI) in some corporate income tax exemptions, he explained.
