A garden rest area at Tesco Lotus Rama 4 supercenter was officially opened yesterday (November 20, 2000) by Bangkok Governor Samak Sundaravej.
Tesco Lotus Board Chairman Sunthorn Arunanotchai joined Governor Samak and Tesco Lotus Chief Executive Officer Michael Raycraft at the official opening.
The garden area comprises lawns and gardens, a fountain, pathways and seating. Separating the garden area from Rama 4 boulevard are a row of 20 giant palm trees.
“Tesco Lotus is committed to enhancing the environment for its customers,” said Khun Sunthorn. “This is what prompted the development of this park, complete with native trees and fountain.”
As part of the celebrations, Governor Samak and Khun Sunthorn together planted a Chaiypruk tree (winner tree) in the garden area as a gesture of good fortune.
Khun Sunthorn said that the park could serve as a model for all people living and working in Bangkok. “This park shows that together, we can work hand in hand to make our city more beautiful.”
Students from Duang Prateep school also played a part in the official opening by participating in a picture painting contest entitled: “Visions of a Greener Bangkok”. The students were part of a larger contest sponsored by Tesco Lotus for children at local schools to paint their visions of a greener Bangkok.
