Singapore, November 30, 2000 - ASP1 Asia, a joint venture between Computer Associates International Inc (CA) and DataOne Asia Pte Ltd (DataOne Asia), which aims at accelerating eBusiness growth in the Asian region, today rolled out its commercial service.
The joint venture, first announced in May 2000, leverages the strengths of its parent companies to offer enterprises quick deployment of advanced eBusiness applications via the Internet at an affordable cost. CA provides access to a wealth of applications and global ASP expertise, while DataOne Asia provides world-class Internet Data Centres to support application hosting as well as the high-speed broadband network for customers to directly link their companies to the Internet.
"Our partnership with DataOne Asia, a pan-Asian hosting service provider which offers premier Internet Data Centres for eBusinesses, and today's launch of ASP1 represent a major step forward in the development of the ASP industry in Asia," said Charles B. Wang, Chairman of CA.
"Companies now have easy and cost-effective access to a range of advanced eBusiness applications. They can have complete confidence in ASP1, as it is backed by two solid companies with a clear vision of delivering value in the ASP market."
Andrew Lee, Chief Executive Officer of DataOne Asia said, "As companies in Asia move their business to the Internet, they need a strong partner to support their e-commerce activities. DataOne Asia's Internet Data Centres provide customers with the pivotal link to world-class hosting, Internet access, site management and guaranteed performance levels. Since our launch in July this year, we have delivered on our promise to provide the dynamic hosting platform for a pan-Asian eBusiness exchange.
"Our ASP1 partnership with Computer Associates is a further endorsement of CA's confidence in DataOne Asia's expertise in providing a dynamic platform to meeting the fast growing demand for outsourced e-business hosting. With CA's global leadership in ASP solutions, services and implementation, ASP1 will be a key player in this space."
ASP1 - Providing advanced applications for eBusiness and other ASPs
ASP1 Asia is focusing on two major areas of business. The first is applications hosting and management.
In this area, ASP1 will initially offer CA's applications including ACCPAC accounting, Masterpiece visual financial management and MK Distribution for logistics management. Other ASP applications coming on stream include human resource management application and secured email service.
Both MNCs and small and medium-sized businesses can look forward to having the latest software at their fingertips and enjoy high-speed Internet access by the end of first quarter 2001.
ASP1 will also provide advanced eBusiness applications to vertical markets such as Finance and Distribution. These industry-specific applications will be launched by end of second quarter 2001.
By that time, ASP1 will also offer eLearning hosting services and management targeted at corporate clients. It will also include hosting of CA's Virtual University that provides eLearning to CA staff and clients.
The second area of business for ASP1 Asia will be providing enabling technologies for other ASPs.
ASP1 will supply infrastructure technology, services and integration for other companies to become ASP-enabled. ASP1 will offer five components including an ASP portal, service level agreement (SLA) management, ASP billing, ASP provisioning and customer relationship management.
Said Mr Ng Eng Ho, Managing Director of Keppel T&T, "Through our wholly-owned subsidiary DataOne Asia, we have formed a strategic partnership with CA, ASP1 Asia, which gives us the opportunity to break into the ASP space quickly. We will leverage CA's proven leadership in key IT disciplines such as eBusiness development, management and business intelligence to further grow our 'e' business initiatives.
"As a sign of our confidence in ASP1 Asia's product offerings, we have signed on as a major customer of ASP1. We believe ASP1's outstanding infrastructure as well as its suite of application offerings will provide real business value to our customers.
"Keppel can now deliver Internet-based solutions to our large base of enterprise customers so that they can focus on their core business competencies and enjoy the benefits of ASP delivery."
For customers, ASP1 is recruiting resellers that will in turn target SMEs, local MNCs/enterprises and hardware providers, specifically for bundling purposes to value added resellers (VARs). MNCs and large local enterprises will be a second target customer group, with the third target being Internet Data Centres for hosting.
CA - Helping to build the global ASP industry
Market research firms have predicted that the size of the virtually untapped ASP market will have a global market reach of US$25 billion by 2004.
CA is involved in over a dozen ASP joint ventures across the Asia Pacific region, including Satyam Computer Services (India), Simplysoft (India), Solar (Hong Kong), Online Pass (Korea) and Guangha-CA (China). Each ASP has different strengths and areas of focus, so Wang sees strong potential for complementary collaboration by the ASPs, such as sub-contracting or sharing of common services.
"The overall ASP market has incredible potential, with room for hundreds of players. A choice of ASPs and applications, with customer focus driven by healthy competition, will help the ASP industry develop and mature more quickly," said Wang.
CA recently spun off an independent company called iCan-ASP to serve the infrastructure needs of ASPs, and has formed ASP partnerships with companies around the world. Many eBusinesses are using CA solutions such as the Jasmine ii eBusiness platform, Neugents intelligence technology and eTrust security applications to build and deliver ASP services.
