The United Nations Environment Programme and the Asian Development Bank is pleased to invite you to a reception and press briefing to launch the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Atlas of the Environment on Monday, 19 April 2004 at 7 p.m.
Environmental degradation is one of the most pressing challenges in Asia. It could hamper efforts to improve people's health and livelihoods, and reduce poverty. Environmental protection and conservation is indispensable for sustainable economic growth.
The first book of its kind dedicated to the GMS ? comprising Cambodia, Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam ? the Atlas shows not only the wealth of thesubregion's natural resources but also the seriousness of environmental degradation and the challenges ahead.
