Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT] has donated an advanced contact center solution to Thailand's new National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) to provide immediate information through one toll-free number in the event of a national emergency.

Nortel channels Teledata (Thailand) and 3D Networks contributed engineering and technical personnel to implement the new system.

Supported by a complete Nortel communications platform, the contact center will allow the NDWC to quickly and efficiently handle large volumes of calls as well as link into Thailand's radio, telephone and mobile phone networks to initiate rapid early warning bulletins to help save lives and property. The Thai government has located the NDWC at Nonthaburi, approximately 20 kilometers northwest of the capital, Bangkok.

"Enhancing the human experience through communications is a vital component of Nortel's corporate philosophy and Thailand's new disaster warning initiative signaled an opportunity for us to provide technology that will help ease the impact of a future disaster," said Mark Stevens, vice president, ASEAN and Pakistan, Nortel.
