"Let's Beat Breast Cancer" Rally in Phuket Raises Awareness and Promotes Healthy Living

According to the Department of Medical Services, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Thai women, with 20,000 new cases reported each year. The mortality rate from breast cancer is 12.7 per 100,000 population, with 8,266 deaths reported in 2020, representing 14.6% of all female cancer-related deaths. Early detection plays a crucial role in improving survival rates. Studies from Bangkok Hospital indicate that when breast cancer is detected early, the survival rate can be as high as 95%.

The PCRM advocates a four-pronged approach to breast cancer prevention. Women are encouraged to follow a whole-food, plant-based diet, emphasizing the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Regular physical activity is also recommended, with at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week. Limiting alcohol intake and maintaining a healthy body weight through balanced nutrition and an active lifestyle are additional key strategies. These lifestyle choices are supported by research and endorsed by leading health organizations as effective measures to reduce breast cancer risk.

"This four-pronged prevention strategy is more powerful than ever," said Michele Wisla, Organizer of the Let's Beat Breast Cancer Phuket rally. "This past June, the American Medical Association officially adopted this approach, giving incredible validation to our message. With 70 of these breast cancer drum rallies worldwide, I'm thrilled to bring it to Phuket for the second year in a row."

This Phuket rally marked a significant step in bringing this important message to Thailand, empowering women to take proactive steps in reducing their breast cancer risk. By connecting international best practices with local community engagement, the campaign highlights the importance of combining lifestyle education, early detection, and accessible resources to protect women's health.
