GO WHOLESALE under Central Retail stages butcher skills contest to select international representatives and build career paths for professional meat cutters

Among the many forces driving growth in the food ingredients wholesale business, the role of the "butcher", or meat-cutting specialist in the meat department, has become increasingly important. These skilled staff help prepare raw materials in ways that make them easier and more convenient for food operators to use, while reducing labour requirements and minimising waste. With strong technical ability, butchers can also create new cutting styles suited to different cooking methods, adding value to meat products and making the department a key destination for chefs and restaurant owners seeking ready-to-use ingredients.

GO WHOLESALE - GO WHOLESALE, The Food Wholesale Center, Always Fresh-Forward for Food Professionals, operated by Central Food Wholesale Co., Ltd., under Central Retail Corporation (CRC), - is reinforcing its expertise in the food business by developing the learning potential and technical skills of meat-cutting staff across all branches. The company has worked with Kasetsart University and other organisations to provide continuous upskilling and reskilling programmes. Most recently, it partnered with MLA, or Meat & Livestock Australia, to organise the GO Meat Expert All Star Challenge 2026 at The Food School Bangkok, with the aim of selecting representatives for MLA's international competition, The Ultimate Butcher Challenge.

The competition brought together six GO Meat Experts, or leading meat-cutting specialists from different branches. Contestants demonstrated their ability across several areas, including cutting technique, precision, and meat preparation and cooking techniques that add value to the products. Mr. Calvin Gung - Senior Technical Meat Specialist at Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), and Chef Natt - Natsasi Nuin, an MLA Ambassador - Aussie Beef Mates and founder of Lady Butcher steakhouse, also joined the event to share knowledge, demonstrate professional butchery techniques in line with international standards, and offer cooking tips for different cuts to enhance the flavour of the meat. Both experts also served on the judging panel for the GO Meat Expert All Star Challenge 2026, which was held to find representatives for an international butcher competition.

Throughout the competition, the six GO WHOLESALE GO Meat Experts demonstrated strong commitment as they competed across a range of judging criteria. These included food safety, hygiene and yield management; cutting skills and workmanship; product knowledge and display; appropriate selection of meat cuts; cooking technique; and presentation of dishes to the judges.

The winner was Mr. Surasak Atsawaphailin, GO Meat Expert from GO WHOLESALE Rama 2 branch. The runner-up was Mr. Anusorn Indod, GO Meat Expert from GO WHOLESALE Udon Thani branch. Both will go on to represent the company in an international competition.

The event served as a platform of opportunity for GO WHOLESALE's butcher staff, helping them see the potential for further growth in their profession. They are not only GO Meat Experts with professional meat-cutting skills and in-depth academic and practical knowledge gained through Kasetsart University, but also creators of new cutting styles that meet the needs of modern cooking and keep pace with changing food trends. This can be seen at GO WHOLESALE meat counters, where a wide variety of cuts are available to serve different customer requirements.

The initiative reinforces GO WHOLESALE's position as a specialist in the food ingredients wholesale business, with a commitment to continuously developing people, improving products and creating new value for Thailand's food industry. It also strengthens the brand's role as a must-visit destination for beef lovers!

Customers can experience the skills of GO Meat Experts at all 14 GO WHOLESALE branches nationwide.
