Rooted in the generosity of Esarn hospitality and the women who keep its food traditions alive, the campaign turned feasting, craft, and the simple act of showing up for one another into practical, multi-faceted support for vulnerable women and families across Thailand.
The initiative launched on 12 August with a special one-day Mother's Day sharing menu created by Chef Andrew Martin, with 50% of all menu revenue pledged directly to APSW's shelter, healthcare, and vocational programmes.
Going beyond customer-facing dining, SOMSAK extended its contribution by directly hosting and fully funding a private "Pan Sook" (sharing happiness) Community Kitchen lunch on 20 August. The restaurant closed its doors to the public to welcome 30 APSW team members, single mothers, and beneficiaries for a complimentary, elevated Esarn feast prepared by the culinary team.
To further champion economic self-reliance, the campaign integrated APSW's vocational embroidery workshop into the restaurant. SOMSAK initiated the project by directly purchasing THB 5,000 worth of embroidered keepsakes from the workshop to provide immediate income for the artisans. A month-long in-restaurant showcase then invited diners to purchase additional pieces, with 100% of consignment proceeds returned directly to the charity.
Bringing the total value of SOMSAK's contribution to THB 55,000, the initiative provided direct financial aid, artisan revenue, and fully hosted community experiences for the foundation.
"SOMSAK's Esarn-inspired roots lie with hardworking people, and women have always played a vital role in keeping food traditions alive and communities together," says Atcha "Bye" Wongchindawest, Co-Founder of Pocket Rocket Group. "We wanted to honour that contribution in true SOMSAK fashion: with generous food, full tables, and a celebration that created meaningful support beyond the restaurant. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped us turn that intention into something tangible for the women supported by APSW."
"We are deeply grateful for the meaningful support from SOMSAK and everyone who dined or bought artwork this August," says APSW representative Wilaiporn Piangkratok. "Community partnerships like this are essential to our work, enabling us to continue providing emergency shelter, healthcare, and skills training to women and children in need."
While SOMSAK's Mother's Day campaign has ended, APSW's work continues throughout the year. Donations and volunteer enquiries can be made through www.apsw-thailand.org.
