ExxonMobil and Ministry of Energy Sign Nam Phong Gas Field Concession Extension

ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Khorat Inc (EMEPKI) and the Thai Ministry of Energy have signed an agreement to extend the production period of the EMEPKI's gas field onshore blocks in Nam Phong district, Khon Kaen province for an additional 10 years, from 2021-2031. The produced natural gas is to distribute to the PTT Public Company Limited for delivery to Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand in homes and businesses in the Northeastern region of Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Supattanapong Punmeechaow has signed the concession extension with EMPKI Vice President Chatchawarn Hongcharoenthai at a ceremony held at the Energy Ministry's conference, Energy Complex building, Bangkok. Prominent participants at the ceremony included Energy Permanent-Secretary Kulit Sombatsiri, Director-General of Mineral Fuels Department Dr. Sarawut Kaewtathip; ExxonMobil Thailand Lead Country Manager, Dr. Adisak Jangkamolkulchai; ExxonMobil Ltd Public and Government Affairs Manager, Dr. Taweesak Bunluesin.

The extension of this concession will help maintain natural gas supply around 8 million cubic feet per day from Nam Phong Power Plant which can serve more than 1 million households in the upper part of the northeastern region of Thailand.

EMEPKI Vice President Chatchawarn Hongcharoenthai said, "We extend our gratitude to the Thai government for its ongoing support and express our commitment to assist the long-term expansion of Thailand's energy resources. We look forward to working in partnership with the Thai government to grow and serve the Thai people.

Recently, EMEPKI celebrated its 30 years of safety without a lost time incident since the start of production, reflecting its commitment to conduct safe operations. In the community, the company has also joined with energy alliance groups to provide education funds to students and other local institutions to help improve health and education conditions.

According to the past accomplishments, compliance to the concession requirements in all aspects and contributions to the Thai society, the government granted another 10 year extension to EMEPKI at the Nam Phong Gas Field in Khon Kaen province.
