HUAWEI ACCOMPANIES THAILAND ON ITS DIGITAL JOURNEY

Thursday 08 April 2021 14:11
The world is waiting, with both optimism and caution, to see what 2021 will bring. On top of everyone's wish list are vaccines that could help us "go back to normal," and recovery for individuals and businesses strongly impacted by the pandemic. It will certainly take a long time to recover, but during this pandemic, the world has come to understand better the role of digital technology, because it has become more reliant on it. More and more people have learned to work remotely and to rely on online platforms to continue with their daily activities in the new normal. Digital innovations such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud have been transforming our lives in ways that were not imaginable just 5 years ago. It is undeniable that many businesses and institutions would not have survived without these new technologies.

Huawei: the right partner for digital transformation
With the rapid proliferation of digital infrastructure and the adoption of new technologies, Thailand is now determining its future. Sectors are developing quickly as they adopt innovations that lead to disruption, as access and processing of information become more efficient. Huawei has been present and active in Thailand for more than 20 years, helping lay the foundations for ambitious plans to make the country the region's digital hub. It has been making long-term intense investments and facilitating industry development. Huawei decided in 2016 to establish its regional headquarters in Thailand. Over the years, it has successfully set up learning and incubation centers for new technology such as the Huawei Training Center, the Huawei Open Lab and the Huawei ASEAN Academy.

With its four business groups — Carrier, Enterprise, Cloud and Consumer Groups — Huawei is a leading provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices in the country. The Enterprise Group, which helps empower businesses and organizations through integrated ICT solutions, has worked with government agencies such as the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), for upgrading its power transmission network and modernizing communication facilities in its headquarters. It has also collaborated with many private companies, such as telecom company United Information Highway (UIH), to provide flexible network solutions. It has also boosted the education sector by improving campus networks at leading universities. Huawei implemented the Cloud Campus Network Solution at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lad Krabang (KMITL), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) to improve connection efficiency among all faculties, while its Agile Controller-Campus helped Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU) upgrade its network infrastructure, enabling new applications such as online learning and interactive classrooms.

In addition, last year, Huawei held HUAWEI CLOUD & CONNECT: Powering Digital Thailand 2021, one of the largest conferences outside China, to showcase our potential and complete technology including Cloud, 5G and AI to support the digital transformation of organizations, and also to demonstrate that Huawei values investment and sustainable growth in Thailand.

Backbone of the country's digitalization
At Huawei, we realize that the key to a healthy digital ecosystem is a skilled workforce. As a global ICT provider, we are committed to bridging the ICT talent gap. This is why we announced our long-term plan to develop a talent ecosystem to help countries like Thailand meet the ever-increasing demand for highly-skilled digital workforce. Leveraging on decades of experience and expertise, we tackle ICT workforce challenges in APAC through three programs: certification system and standards; Huawei ICT Academy and Huawei ICT Competition.

Moreover, Huawei established "Huawei ASEAN Academy" to partner with local business, technical and engineering schools to produce 100,000 digital and tech-related workers within 5 years.

The trusted partner in the times of need
Huawei has been cooperating with and accompanying the Thai government on different projects and ventures especially during the most challenging times, such as the coronavirus epidemic. The company used the most cutting-edge digital technology such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud to accompany enterprises and individuals who were obliged to make sudden and drastic changes to their work or operations during Covid-19.

Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand
Every year, we invest 14 percent of our business revenue globally to seize the opportunities and address the challenges of the future intelligent world. Innovation has been the very foundation for Huawei's growth since the company was founded, and we continue redoubling our efforts in exploring forward-looking technologies and basic research. To be a part of the country's development through our mission 'Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand', we look forward to future projects and initiatives to bring digital to every person, every home and organization. In addition to continuing investments in ICT infrastructure, creating opportunities to create innovative technologies and developing personnel skills to meet industry needs, Huawei is also expanding partnerships with local industries to build a complete ecosystem in Thailand. We will continue to accompany the growth of the country's digital economy and help build a fully connected and intelligent future for the Thai people. We are confident of Thailand's potential to become ASEAN's first digital hub, and this will help Thailand's digital economy contribute to 30 percent of the GDP by 2030.
