ABeam Consulting and ABeam Consulting (Thailand) have been assigned the role of project coordinator by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan for "The study project on introduction of EVs to Thailand Post" that aims to strengthen Thailand Post's operational transformation towards an eco-friendlier delivery of packages and postal parcels by lower carbon-emissions, while exploring the practical use of electric vehicles (EVs) in Thailand.
The project, which demonstrates shared commitment to drive Thailand toward a carbon-neutral society, is expected to contribute to facilitating the decarbonization of postal operation by EVs and the optimization of delivery of packages and postal parcel as a part of Thailand Post's business strategy and ESG strategy. As a backdrop of the project, we can refer to the collaborative relationship between Japan and Thailand, building on the Memorandum of Cooperation in the Postal Field between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of the Kingdom of Thailand, which was first signed in November 2016 and renewed in August 2021. Bearing that in mind, joining the projects are also Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and PTT Oil and Retail Business Plc. (OR), that provide EVs and charging stations respectively.

The initiative aims to implement environmental-friendly postal delivery of Thailand Post using clean energy to minimize carbon emission and control the fluctuating fuel cost. These carbon-reduction plans have been in effect for over three consecutive years, and this year will see the increasing use of electric vehicles in the practical delivery system.
Dr. Danan Suphatthaphan, President of Thailand Post Co., Ltd. says that "In 2023, Thailand Post has plans to emphasize on the development of environmental-friendly routes as we see that the country's economic growth relies on efficient logistics services. As Thailand Post offers nationwide delivery coverage, we need to reduce long-term fuel cost while maintaining low CO2 emissions since we can plan exact same routes to deliver parcels every day. We adopt the environmental-friendly Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV for postal delivery to lower the fuel costs, be friendlier to the Earth, in line with our carbon reduction target. In 2023, we will pilot the use of Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV in the delivery routes in Chonburi, and the Smart City of Phuket, which are trending with high-growth for the logistics business, prior to rolling out to other regions."
On February 2, 2023, Thailand Post, Mitsubishi Motors, PTT OR, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and ABeam Consulting met in Phuket at the kick-off ceremony where background, objective, and approach of this study were shared and further discussed. The project will use battery-powered Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV to deliver parcels to customers on hilly terrains in Phuket and Chonburi.
ABeam Consulting and ABeam Consulting (Thailand) will help the project research in Thailand EV market, collect and analyze data and behavior on the real-world field data from Thailand Post's logistic operations, and explore the potential of widespread adoption of EV in Thailand.
