Spotify Releases 2023 Wrapped: Music by Homegrown and K-Pop Artists Top Streams in Thailand

2023 was defined by the epic return of major female artists, sonic diversity across the charts, and a global music culture that saw the rise of powerful genres. Globally, Taylor Swift takes the reign as Spotify's top artist this year - followed by Bad Bunny (#2), The Weeknd (#3), Drake (#4), and Peso Pluma (#5).

Closer to home, here's how Thailand listened in 2023:

Jung Kook stole the spotlight as Thailand's Top Artist of the Year, with Taylor Swift and LISA hot on his heels at #2 and #3 respectively. Meanwhile, local crowd favorites Three Man Down and Saran secured their ranks at #6 and #7 respectively.

This year, we continue to witness strong support for homegrown talent. Since being featured on Spotify's RADAR program this year, which is dedicated to showcasing emerging and talented artists around the world, new kid on the block, เรนิษรา, owned the stage and won the hearts of listeners. Not only did they clinch the title of Top RADAR Thailand Artist of the Year, their hit ผู้ถูกเลือกให้ผิดหวัง (ดอกไม้ฤดูหนาว) also ranked amongst the most-streamed songs in Thailand: coming in at #3 in the list of Top Songs of the Year, and as the #1 most-streamed Local Song. The duo also snagged the #5 spot on the list of Top Local Groups of The Year.

We know that people experience disappointment, so we hope this song provides hope and comfort."

Three Man Down emerged as the Top Local Artist of The Year and Top Local Group of The Year. Adding yet another accolade to their roster, their album "This City Won't Be Lonely Anymore" also scored Top Album of the Year. "The charm of Three Man Down's music lies in our unique storytelling and lyrics that resonate with many Thais. While this year has been incredible, we think the Thai music industry will be even more fun next year. Not only will there be a greater diversity of music for fans, but we will definitely see more up-and-coming Thai music artists too.", said Three Man Down.

Entering the Wrapped top lists this year is PiXXiE, who was crowned 2023's Top EQUAL Thailand Artist of the Year, having ranked first on the roster of local artists that were featured on Spotify's gender equity program dedicated to amplifying women creators and their music.

Reflecting the growth of Thai hip-hop in the past year, Saran swooped in at #2 on the list of Top Local Artists of the Year, followed by YOUNGOHM at #3. Soaring to #4 on Thailand's Top Tracks of The Year is Newery's "กลิ่นดอกไม้", which also comes in as the second most-streamed local song.

HOW THE WORLD LISTENED TO K-POP

This year, Spotify is also spotlighting K-Pop: the genre that has scaled the globe and proven that music, from anywhere in the world can transcend language and cultural boundaries. In celebration of the continued growth and export of the genre, 2023 Wrapped unveils the Global Top K-Pop Artists and Songs of the Year.

On top of the list of Global Top K-Pop Artists of the Year is BTS who maintain their stronghold from 2022. Next on the ranks are BLACKPINK at #2 and Jung Kook of BTS at #3. Proving they are forces to be reckoned with, 4th-gen sensations NewJeans and Stray Kids round off the top five, coming in at #4 and #5 respectively.

The BTS members and NewJeans continue to dominate on the global top five list of most streamed K-Pop songs this year. "Seven (feat. Latto)" by Jung Kook emerges at #1, while "Like Crazy" by bandmate Jimin comes in at #3. In a testament to their remarkable rookie year, NewJeans' "OMG" and "Ditto" rank at #4 and #5 on the list respectively. Completing the roster at #2 is the viral hit "Cupid - Twin Ver." by FIFTY FIFTY.
