Banpu NEXT, a leading smart energy solutions provider in Asia-Pacific, has unveiled key trends that demonstrate global organizations' increasing commitment to achieving Net-Zero. These organizations are employing smart energy innovations to address the urgent need to combat climate change. Their efforts are aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, which is critical for preventing the more severe and irreversible impacts associated with a 2 degrees Celsius increase. This is in line with the outcomes of COP28, where the significant role of the private sector in climate action and the transition to smart energy were acknowledged.
Banpu NEXT highlights global trends in tackling climate change: smart energy innovations essential for achieving net-zero

The journey towards Net-Zero is gaining momentum, with a growing number of major corporations setting ambitious targets. According to Net-Zero Tracker, an independent body monitoring global greenhouse gas emissions, 1,475 out of over 4,000 entities worldwide now have a Net-Zero target. This marks a considerable rise compared to just a few years ago. Companies from various sectors, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, agriculture, hospitality, manufacturing, materials, retail, transportation, and energy, are recognizing the necessity of addressing climate change. Their strategies encompass stakeholder engagement, setting science-based targets, utilizing carbon offset credits, and investing in sustainable technologies and practices.

In Thailand, both local and international brands from diverse industries are taking strategic steps towards promoting sustainability. Their goal is to foster a nature-positive world and move progressively towards Net-Zero emissions. Notable examples include the LK Rubber Industrial, Betagen, Summer Lasalle's mixed-use real estate, Rugby International School, Samyan Market, FN Outlet, The Platinum Fashion Mall, NSL Foods, GWM Thailand, The Erawan Group, and Loxley. These organizations have seized the opportunity to significantly cut down their annual CO2 emissions.

As global awareness of sustainability grows, Banpu NEXT sees smart energy innovations, such as renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, energy management systems, as well as electric vehicles and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) as crucial in achieving Net-Zero goals. These innovations play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions and facilitating the shift to renewable energy, thereby advancing progress towards a sustainable future. Committed to this cause, Banpu NEXT focuses on developing total smart energy solutions that support this transition. The company has already made significant strides by helping its customers reduce carbon emissions by approximately 400,000 tons, an achievement equivalent to planting about 29 million trees. This is a significant contribution towards realizing carbon-free world while also supporting Thailand's ambitious goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and Net-Zero emissions by 2065.

Aiming to be the "Net-Zero Energy Provider" for enterprises across Asia-Pacific, Banpu NEXT is actively involved in five key business areas contributing to the global climate change effort: Renewable Power, Energy Storage, Energy Trading, e-Mobility, and Smart City & Energy Management. The company is also actively pursuing partnership opportunities with promising tech and clean energy enterprises, bolstering its business capabilities and strengthening the overall business ecosystem.
