Mr. Hiroshi Watanabe, Ph.D., Senior Research Director, Suntory Beverage & Food Asia Pacific, referred to information provided by the Department of Provincial Administration that, in September 2023, Thailand registered 13,043,793 people with age over 60 years old, accounting for 19.74% of the entire population of 66,061,517. In other words, Thailand has completely become an aged society. The aged population has a tendency to encounter health problems, such as nervous system and brain disorders, chronic ailments, and various disabilities.
One notable problem of an aged society is the decrease in the proportion of working-age population serving one elderly, resulting in an inevitable increase in the welfare costs of elderly burdened by the working-age population. Therefore, supporting population to enter seniority with good quality of life and promoting life longevity with good health are considered key elements to ensure a healthy future society. Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand) is committed to strengthening Thai society by promoting good dietary knowledge and cultivating appropriate consumption behaviour across all age ranges. These efforts will help promote healthful dietary behaviour for everyone.
Substantial research indicates that 'Carnosine', a dipeptide composed of two amino acids, helps promote efficient brain functioning and boost the efficiency of frontal lope, facilitating functions related to processing, decision-making, and thinking. It also helps stimulate brain and nervous system, increasing concentration and focus, as well as reducing brain fatigue and anxiety. Even though our body could produce Carnosine, its ability will be reduced as we age. Furthermore, the ability to incorporate Carnosine into our bodies is limited, as it is exclusively found in meats; such as chicken, beef, pork, fish and egg; and never in plants.
Aside from consuming brain-healthy foods, we should consistently maintain good health by eating foods from the 5 main food groups, exercising regularly, drinking sufficient water, sleeping well, and maintaining positive minds. This way, we will become quality elderly people with happiness and desirable quality of life, thus reducing the chances of ailments and slowing the deterioration of health in the long run.
