As the COVID-19 pandemic affects an increasingly broad area of Thailand, the Honda Khiang Khang Thai Fund (HKKT) under the Honda Thailand Foundation together with the Honda Group of Companies in Thailand is providing assistance to strengthen the operations of all medical personnel who are working hard and helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in patients by delivering an additional 1,100 Negative and Positive Pressure Smart Face Shields produced by Honda volunteer engineers, worth a total of 42 million baht, to the Ministry of Public Health and Ramathibodi Hospital. The face shields will be allocated based on demand for distribution to 114 public hospitals across the country, as well as to the Department of Corrections for distribution to Medical Correctional Institutions, Bang Kwang Central Prison Hospital and Samut Prakarn Central Prison Hospital.

Mr. Pitak Pruittisarikorn, Managing Director of the HKKT Fund, said, "The COVID-19 situation has re-emerged, leading to a surge of new cases that has increased demand for medical equipment to help prevent the spread of infections and protect medical staff and patients. The HKKT Fund, together with Honda's engineering team, has accelerated the production of an additional 1,100 Negative and Positive Pressure Smart Face Shields to be delivered to government hospitals, prisons, and correctional institutions. The HKKT Fund would like to encourage medical personnel, healthcare workers, and all patients and we strongly believe that the cooperation and efforts of all sectors will help Thailand overcome this crisis soon."

Dr. Aayush Sintoppant, Director General of the Department of Corrections, said, "The Department of Corrections has cooperated with the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, to establish a command center to address the COVID-19 outbreak. Taking proactive measures to control and prevent the outbreak from spreading in prisons and correctional institutions, we have converted some areas to field hospitals. Also, the role of correctional officers has been adapted for them to act in a medical capacity to resolve the situation of infections within prisons and outside of hospitals that cannot accommodate patients. This led to an urgent requirement for a large amount of medical equipment to protect and prevent infections for correctional officers and inmates. The 100 Negative and Positive Pressure Smart Face Shields received from the HKKT Fund will help prevent infections and the spread of the virus among inmates in prisons while increasing safety for medical personnel so they can take care of patients and people at risk more efficiently. The Department of Corrections would like to thank the HKKT Fund for their assistance in alleviating the suffering of inmates so that they can rebuild a sense of self-value and recognize the concerns of society. This will contribute to helping them be more conscious about being a good citizen."

Since early 2020, when Thailand started facing the COVID-19 crisis, the HKKT Fund has provided assistance to many hospitals across the country and the Department of Corrections. It produced and donated 100 negative pressure transfer beds which are modeled after a design by the Faculty of Medicine Vajira Hospital, Navamindradhiraj University, and continued adapting and innovating by producing 2,100 Negative and Positive Pressure Smart Face Shields. The Fund also donated Honda backpack sprayers, and necessary medical items such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), face shields, and cloth masks. Combined with the HKKT Fund lending car and motorcycle ambulances to support the medical operations, the total value of donations by the Fund has reached over 122 million baht (data as of July 2021). The funds come from contributions made when customers purchase a motorcycle, car, or multi-purpose engine. Therefore, the HKKT Fund would like to thank all Honda customers and we stand side-by-side with Thai society to get through this situation together.
