Sanya Jindaprasert, Enterprise Digital Director at SCG Chemicals or SCGC, said, "According to the Pollution Control Department, Thailand sees a continual annual increase in waste volume. However, only one-third of this waste is properly recycled. The remainder may end up in landfills, be used for fuel, or escape into the ocean, significantly impacting the environment and various life forms. Hence, SCGC, a leader in the circular economy business, recognizes the importance of waste management from the source and has developed Wake Up Waste, a digital platform and compression truck designed to enhance waste management efficiency from the source to recycling. The goal is to return as much recyclable material as possible into the recycling process."
Wake Up Waste consists of a waste management platform, a digital tool that streamlines the trade and transportation of waste to processing facilities, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and data collection. Additionally, it includes a mobile compression service, a recycling compression truck technology that can reduce the space needed for waste storage by 5 to 10 times. This facilitates correct waste sorting at the source, recognizes the value of recyclable materials, and aims to maximize their utility, thereby offering a sustainable solution to environmental problems.
Sanya revealed further, "Over one year (data from August 2022 to October 2023), Wake Up Waste has successfully reintroduced 600 tons of recyclable waste into the process, helping to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 383,000 kilograms of carbon, equivalent to the amount absorbed by approximately 31,800 trees. Wake Up Waste has delivered solutions to leading business organizations and environmentally conscious residential communities to enhance the quality of life. This includes L.P.N. Development Public Company Limited in the 'Sort and Earn' initiative, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited and Bai Mai Pun Suk Foundation in the 'Pun Suk Box' activity, as well as a network of over 250 residents, transporters, and recycling plants."
