The afternoon tea tradition began in England around the 17th century to alleviate hunger while waiting for dinner. Popular sorting of 3 types of snacks : savory foods such as sandwiches or appetizers, followed by "Scone" served with jam, ended with pastries such as cakes, cookies, macaroon etc.
